That's my mom to my left. To my right is my father's sister, Nieves Mejil. As many Afro-Puerto Ricans, my father's parents never married and my grandfather never recognized her and my father officially. So she decided to go by my grandmother's last name.
What's the point of this pi? I'm showing it to bring attention to my skin. That's not my natural skin color. I am actually lighter than that. I had no idea how light skinned I was until I lost my tan in this country. And if you need to know, it took about 3 years to lose the tan.
